Bowls clubs make a trip to Old Parks
BORDEAUX – Bowls teams from across Gauteng descend on the Old Parks lawns for some bowling action.
The annual Trips Tournament is in full swing at the Old Parktonian Bowls Club, and 24 teams from bowls clubs across Gauteng have made it their mission to prove their skills publicly at the event.
The 30th edition of the tournament has seen 72 players descend on the lawns in Bordeaux for five weeks of bowling action. When the final day on 19 August arrives, there will only be one winner.
“The teams are made up of three players who can be from different clubs but, the catch is, you only play with two woods over 18 ends, which is made up of three sets of six ends,” explained the host club’s chairperson, Gary Austin.
“This is done to speed up the game and force players to be accurate and consistent with their two woods.”
The tournament acts as a fundraiser for the club, while prize money and other prizes will still be given to the top teams and the winners of the ninth end.
“Old Parktonian Bowls Club would like to thank all the club players who entered this tournament and make this tournament a successful event every year.”
