18 Old Eds members complete the Comrades Marathon at 86km
HOUGHTON – 18 Old Eds runners completed the Comrades recently.

The Old Eds athletics club was well represented at the Comrades Marathon with 18 runners completing the strenuous 86km from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.
The race proved to be a personal milestone for the former chairman of the club, Greg Bortz, who completed his 10th run which earned him his green number. Bortz finished in a time of 11:52:14.

The first Old Eds runner to finish was Tristan Fayard in a time of 9:28:53 followed by Jeandre Fourie in 9:51:11 and James Webster in 10:46:40.
Antonio Lopes, Linda Icely and James Haydock all completed the race in under 11 hours.
Other finishers were:
- Jason Grobler – 11:12:55 q Andrew Steer – 11:14:01
- Judy and Reginald Maher both – 11:15;41
- Meryl Rahme – 11:31:45
- Kenneth Coster – 11:43:40
- Tshegofatso Neeuwfan – 11:48:27
- Kim Steer – 11:50:04
- Bridget Hunter 11:52:14 and Russell Harris almost together as Harris was clocked at two seconds later.
“Anyone who finishes such a demanding race is considered a winner in their own right after completing such a daunting run,” said Mike Dunk, communications officer for the Old Edwardian Society.
