Hawks’ Serious Corruption conducted an entrapment operation which yielded positive results and nabbed a 67-year-old attorney for corruption in Parktown.
“The attorney offered Hawks members a R50 000 bribe so that they could stop investigations against his clients,” explained Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu, spokesperson for the Hawks.
The man was allegedly representing five Department of Health employees who were being investigated for allegedly selling jobs within the department for prices ranging between R5 000 and R6 000, last year.
The suspect, Godfrey Sipho Sibiya, appeared in Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 10 April on charges of corruption.
He was granted R2 000 bail and the case was postponed to 18 May for further investigations.
