Make sure your residence is safe during the Easter holidays

KENSINGTON – Make sure your home is safe during the holidays and your housesitter or domestic worker adheres to these safety tips.

The Easter holidays are around the corner and many residents will be going away on family holidays and church camps.

Safety becomes one of the major issues for residents during this time.

Top Security, a security company in Bedfordview, shared some safety tips for those going on vacation. “If you are going away, it is important to make arrangements with friends, family or neighbours to look after your home. Criminals monitor residents’ movements and plan around that information.

“Always advise your domestic worker to never [tell anyone that] their employer is going on holiday,” said Cedrick Peta of Top Security.

Safety tips for housesitters and domestic workers:

  • Keep all gates and doors locked at all times
  • If there is a delivery, contact the employer to confirm if he or she is expecting a delivery before opening for the person
  • If someone rings the doorbell, always talk to them through the intercom and do not approach the gate to see who it is
  • If you answer the phone, do not share with anyone that your employer is away but rather take a message and let them know they are not available
  • Have all the emergency numbers in your phone or in a convenient, accessible place.
