Armed robbery in Emmarentia

EMMARENTIA – A 53-year-old man was allegedly held at gunpoint and robbed of his cellphone.

 

According to Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, spokesperson for Parkview Police Station, a Sunday walk on 5 February turned sour for a 53-year-old man when he was allegedly robbed of his iPhone 6.

The incident took place at about 1.50pm while he was in Emmarentia Botanical Gardens situated on the corner of Judith Road and Beyers Naudé Drive.

“He alleged that he passed an unknown man who was sitting on the bridge across the pathway. The suspect then [allegedly] followed the complainant, walked behind him and then touched the victim on the shoulder,” explained Sibeko.

She added that, as the victim turned his head, he was surprised to see the man pointing a firearm at him. The suspect demanded the victim’s cellphone and wallet, however, the wallet empty, and the robber only stole the cellphone.

The victim was not injured and a case of armed robbery was opened at Parkview Police Station.
