The Baby Box Project, an NGO that collects new clothing and toiletries and then makes these into starter packs for new mothers, said it has been an exceptional year and many lives have been changed, one box at a time.
“I am so grateful to everyone who has been a part of this initiative in 2016. Every contribution, in whatever shape or form, has gone straight towards easing the life of a mom and her newborn,” said Lena Clark, one of the founders of the organisation.
This year, 23 hospital visits were made and 890 baby box hampers were delivered. The organisation said it is still working on collecting, packing and delivering another 300 hampers for Christmas and stretching into January next year when everyone’s resources are a bit thin.
“Besides our regular visits to Rahima Moosa, we are visiting Leratong and Edenvale hospitals regularly too. We have partner organisations operating in the Oliver Tambo memorial hospital and Charlotte Maxeke neonatal unit. We also have had several opportunities and requests from other hospitals which we hope to explore next year.
“Thank you for partnering with us. Thank you to all our volunteers and friends. If you have offered help, please be patient with us. Sometimes the offers to help are more than the funding we have, but we are looking forward to 2017 and all the opportunities there are to spread the kindness among so many vulnerable moms in our country.
