Botanical Gardens suspect bust

EMMARENTIA – A suspect in his 20s has been arrested for armed robbery.

After several incidents of robberies that had occurred at the Botanical Gardens in Emmarentia and were reported to Parkview Police Station, the alleged culprit who is in his 20s, was arrested recently.
“We were having a serious problem with this suspect as he was [allegedly] terrorising the community who were visiting the gardens. I would like to commend the security company who helped with their swift response and Parkview officers,” commented Colonel Sandile Mkhize, station commander for Parkview Police Station.
The suspect was arrested after he allegedly attempted to commit another robbery using a knife. It is said he attempted to rob a victim of his belongings but was apprehended by a security guard who witnessed the incident.
Mkhize said the suspect would be charged with armed robbery with intent to commit grievous bodily harm. “I can also confirm that the suspect was [allegedly] linked to four other cases which were committed at the gardens.
Parkview police believe there will be more links made to the suspect if community members help with the investigation, it will also help with the securing of conviction in court for the suspect. “I appeal to the community to help with this investigation. This can be done by coming to the station if you were a victim of crime at the gardens and identifying the suspect,” said Mkhize.
The suspect will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
