Cluster of arrests

JOBURG – The Johannesburg East Cluster has started an operation that will run into the festive season.

The Johannesburg East Cluster under the command of Major General Dimakatso Ndaba conducted a joint operation on 2 November which involved City Power, Metro police and emergency services.
According to Captain Richard Munyayi of Jeppe Police Station, the operation targeted businesses and residential properties in Jeppestown and Belgravia along Jules Street. “There were places such as 288 Main Street in Jeppestown where City Power disconnected an electricity meter box after it was discovered there was an illegal connection,” he said.

“An illegal shebeen, which is on the corner of Grace and Jules streets in Jeppestown, was closed down and liquor was confiscated, and a 26-year-old man was arrested for selling liquor without a licence.”
Also, five suspects were arrested when they were found in possession of meter boxes belonging to City Power.
Munyani added that panel beating businesses, car repair workshops and second-hand car dealers were visited and those found contravening the law were given fines and others were warned.

The operations will continue throughout the festive season in all stations that make up the Johannesburg East Cluster including Cleveland, Hillbrow, Jeppe, Norwood, Rosebank, Parkview, and Yeoville.
