The World’s Largest Whisky Festival is in Sandton!

Sandton – The largest whisky-tasting festival is coming to Sandton from 9 to 11 November.

The Whisky Live Festival in Sandton is the world’s largest whisky festival, attracting 10 000 people, offering over 200 whiskies for tasting under one roof over three nights from 9 November to 11 November, at the Sandton Convention Centre.

Visitors can expect to meet master distillers like Brian Nation of Jameson from Ireland; and SA’s very own Andy Watts of Three Ships and Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky. Global ambassador, John Quinn of Tullamore DEW will also be participating from Ireland.

A number of Scottish whisky experts will be flying out to talk whisky with visitors including Donald Colville of Diageo’s Single Malts; Lukasz Dynowiak of Hankey Bannister and Old Pulteney; Harry Tyler, co-founder of Wolfburn; Stuart Nickerson, MD of The Scotch Whisky Company and George Grant, the 6th generation of the family-owned and run Glenfarclas Distillery.

Fans of local whisky aficionados won’t be disappointed and can talk to Master of the Quaich, Pierre Meintjes, of Bunnahabhain; Keeper of the Quaich, Jonathan Miles of The Balvenie and Nkululeko Maseko talking about The Macallan Fine Oak range and Luthando Jez Tibini of Glenfiddich, to name a few.

New releases abound at the festival, including the Wolfburn Aurora which debuts in SA. The Macallan Fine Oak range was launched recently, as was The Glenlivet’s Founder’s Reserve and Cipher. Scottish Leader’s new release coming up in November will also be available for tasting.

Other show highlights include performances by Tumi Molekane at the Chivas Regal stand, The Glenlivet’s sensory experience in the Cipher Room, Christmas gifting and a range of investment whiskies at Norman Goodfellows, The Glenfarclas 60 Year Old worth R360 000 and The Macallan Decanter Series (the M is worth R49 999) on display and for sale, as well as a host of Diageo new releases such as the Port Ellen 37 Year Old 1978 16th edition worth about R46 999 and the oldest ever of the Diageo new releases.

Ticket prices start from R220 each and include 16 whisky tasting vouchers, a glass, a Consol bottled water and a 2017 SA Whisky handbook on the return of your voucher card at the end of the night. Those who download the Whizzky Whisky Scanner App and answer a short questionnaire on the night of the event will receive five additional whisky tasting vouchers.
