113 arrests in a week

JOBURG – The Johannesburg East Cluster has made 113 arrests in a week.

The Johannesburg East Cluster has arrested 113 suspects between 12 and 19 September. They were arrested for committing crimes ranging from murder, armed robbery, business robbery and rape. The cluster is made up of seven police stations – Cleveland, Jeppe, Hillbrow, Rosebank, Parkview, Norwood and Yeoville.

The suspects were arrested for the following:

  • 5 for armed robbery
  • 19 for assault common
  • 19 for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm
  • 10 for theft
  • 5 for shoplifting
  • 5 for possession of drugs
  • 7 for malicious damage to property
  • 1 for business robbery
  • 2 for theft of a motor vehicle
  • 4 for fraud
  • 3 for pointing a firearm
  • 2 for possession of an unlicensed firearm
  • 1 for possession of suspected stolen goods
  • 2 for housebreaking and theft
  • 1 for reckless and driving under the influence
  • 5 for rape
  • 1 for murder
  • 2 for attempted murder
  • 5 for armed robbery
  • 3 for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle
  • 6 for drunk and disorderly behaviour
  • 2 for attempted robbery
  • 1 for child negligence
  • 2 for theft out of a motor vehicle.

The suspects have appeared in different magistrates’ courts such as Hillbrow, Jeppe and Johannesburg. Some have paid their fines while others are out on bail and others remained in custody.
