1st German Scouts take first place

PARKTOWN – 1st German Scouts have come out on top.

The 1st German Scouts, based in Parktown, competed in an annual camping competition known as Strauss Shield.

More than 80 Scouts from seven Scout troops from Johannesburg’s North West district participated.

The competition is an intense three-day camp in which the Scouts have to use ropes and poles to construct a practical and organised camping site which they have to live in for the weekend. The construction includes a dining table, kitchen area and bathroom.

The Scouts also prepared two three-course meals for the judges over the course of the weekend, using only whole ingredients and cooking on fires. They also took part in other fun games and activities including a hike.

The results were very close with the 1st German Scouts taking first place, followed by Fairland’s Air Scouts in second and 1st Craighall in third.
