Success by Johannesburg East Cluster police

JOBURG – Johannesburg East Cluster officers have arrested 129 suspects in the space of a week.

Police of the Joburg East Cluster arrested 129 suspects from 9 to 15 June.

“The suspects were arrested for committing crimes ranging from rape to attempted murder and armed robbery,” said Warrant Officer Richard Munyayi of Jeppe Police Station.

The cluster is made up of seven police stations namely Cleveland, Jeppe, Hillbrow, Rosebank, Parkview, Norwood and Yeoville.

The suspects were arrested for the following:

  • 1 suspect for armed robbery
  • 8 suspects for assault
  • 19 suspects for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
  • 6 suspects for theft
  • 10 suspects for shoplifting
  • 30 suspects for drink and driving
  • 1 suspect for possession of drugs
  • 2 suspects for malicious damage to property
  • 2 suspects for business robbery
  • 2 suspects for attempted theft of motor vehicle
  • 12 for being illegal immigrants
  • 1 suspect for crimen injuria and resisting an arrest
  • 5 suspects for fraud
  • 2 for pointing a firearm
  • 4 for possession of dagga
  • 4 for possession of unlicensed firearms
  • 7 for possession of stolen goods
  • 3 for housebreaking and theft
  • 4 for drinking in public
  • 2 for reckless driving
  • 1 for house robbery
  • 2 for possession of housebreaking implements
  • 1 for urinating in public and bribery.

“The suspects have appeared in different courts such as Hillbrow, Jeppe and Johannesburg courts. Some have paid their fines while others are out on bail and others remained in prison,” concluded Munyayi.
