Uzalo cast supports the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital

PARKTOWN – The cast of Uzalo recently visited the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital.

The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust hosted Uzalo soapie stars Dawn Thandeka King, Leleti Khumalo, Nay Maps, Kay Sibiya, Ntokozo Dlamini, Khaya Dladla and Sihle Ndaba at the hospital building site recently. They toured the almost complete specialist paediatric hospital with the intention of showing their support.

“We are very excited to have the support of some of Mzansi’s leading actresses and actors to raise awareness of the project and encourage South Africans to continue to donate to the state-of-the-art 200-bed, child-centred facility,” said Vuyo Lutseke, media, and communications officer for the trust.

The cast was shown eight major and two minor operating theatres, ICU wards with over 45 ICU beds, smaller wards with parental bedside facilities, and bathrooms designed for children, as well as many other specialist facilities.

The hospital will have a holistic approach to healing, providing an environment where parents, as well as the children, are nurtured. The hospital aims to be a truly family-centred facility that incorporates the child’s healing needs, the comfort of parents and caregivers, and the best services that doctors and nurses have to offer, in a state-of-the-art medical facility.

Lutseke added, “This will be a healing environment that focuses on mind, body and spirit; holistic care has been infused into the architecture, the design, construction, landscaping, decoration, rehabilitation, play areas and even support services.”

The hospital still needs to raise R200 million to reach its R1 billion target. “We encourage all South African’s to really be part of this life-changing project and donate their R20 via SMS. This is for the future of our children and is important for our country,” concluded King.
