Petition – Stop promoting Satanism in SA

JOBURG - Greek metal-music band, Rotting Christ, faces trouble leading up to their South African tour.

News24 reported that the Christian South Africa organisation filed a petition called Stop Promoting Satanism in South Africa, ahead of the arrival of the heavy metal band that is set to perform at Bassline in Johannesburg and The Assembly in Cape Town.

The petition that was created by Christian SA was done in an attempt to appeal to organisations to stand with them in solidarity and stop bringing satanic bands into the country.

While the band has not confirmed that their music is satanic, their song titles such as 666 and their F*** Christ Tour in 1993 would give people the impression that they are.

The official statement made by the band in 1999, after causing a political uproar, noted that they were not crusaders of Satan.

“Living in (so-called) democratic societies, I think everyone should have the right to call religions as he/she wants. We in fact simply believe they are rotting! We are not a ‘satanic-crusader’ type of band but rather one of the many bands that represent the dark side in nowadays metal music.”

The petition, which can be found on GoPetition.com, states, “Venues allowing these organisations to book events on their premises and blaspheme God openly, promotes pure evil Hate Speech.”

“There are certain Blasphemous Media/Music/Event Organisations and venues corrupting the minds of individuals by letting Blatant Satanic International Artists/Bands come to our Beautiful country and perform, spreading their filthy message to their following and glorifying Devils/Demons,” was added to the petition.

The band and organisers, Witchdoctor Productions, have not yet responded to the issue of the petition, however, the organisers have received this kind of pressure from certain groups regarding the bands they have brought to perform in South Africa, in the past.

Heavy metal band, Behemoth, is still set to perform at Bassline in Johannesburg on 26 March.
