Businesses urged to take stock during tough economic times

JOBURG - Martina Laurie, CEO of wellness spa Hands on Treatment, has urged businesses to remain focused on maintaining employee health while withstanding increasing challenges this year.

Her advice comes in the wake of the tough economic challenges facing the country, which Laurie added has increased the pressure on companies to sustain their service levels and try to continue their operations.

“The general feeling is that businesses will have to work harder to reach targets, to think broader and more strategically, and be more disciplined to keep ahead of the competition,” she said.

She advised companies to keep a close eye on staff and ensure they did not burn out, have low morale or have a negative impact on the team dynamic.

“This means making the working environment conducive to growth, prosperity and learning [while] at the same time ensuring, in so far as possible, that you help employees achieve a work-life balance and keep them motivated,” she said.

Laurie concluded by highlighting certain measures employers could adopt to create this environment by creating the most effective environment for staff and empowering staff with the tools to handle pressure.

“Keep a look out for ways to establish and maintain a positive work environment, with a focus on empowerment and on growth,” she said.
