5 child-friendly restaurants in Joburg

JOHANNESBURG – After a local restaurant closed its doors to any child under the age of 15, City Buzz compiled a list of five restaurants which will happily welcome the entire family.

News of Blandford Manor in Randburg banning all children under the age of 15 from stepping foot on its premises shocked a number of locals. The establishment stated the reason for the ban was because badly behaved children not only damaged the property, but also terrorised, and in some cases, killed some of the animals on the premises.

Here are some spots you can take your kids to, regardless of their age:

1. Spur: This age-old family favourite is one of the best places to take children, as almost every branch has a supervised children’s play area, complete with face painting, jungle gyms and even a PlayStation chill out zone.

2. Wimpy: Another South African favourite. The food is good, the service is top-notch and they’ve always got space for the little ones. Most Wimpy branches have enclosed play areas with jungle gyms that can be seen from most tables in the restaurant, making it easy for you to keep an eye on your children. They even give away toys with their kiddie meals, making sure your child is always entertained!

3. Panettone Café at Zoo Lake: This is a great spot for the whole family. With a restaurant, family garden and a sports bar, it caters to everyone’s taste. In fact, they even host children’s parties and have an area decked out with jungle gyms, slides, swings, trampolines and even a jumping castle.
