Joburg Ballets turns 175!

JOBURG - Joburg Ballet announces Giselle as their opening performance for the season – and at a lower price than ever before.

The company celebrates 175 years in the ballet industry this year and for this milestone, they’re trying to encourage more people to watch ballet by announcing their new ticket pricing for 2016.

“We’re keen to make the ballet as accessible as possible,” said Joburg Ballet public relations officer, Fiona Walsh.

Several price categories have been lowered and the theatre seating plan reconfigured to substantially increase the number of seats now on sale at lower prices.

As a part of their Early Bird Special, they’re offering 30 percent off all standard priced tickets purchased before 31 January, together with a 50 percent discount on all tickets for the opening night performance on 8 April at 7.30pm.

In addition, they’re also offering a R50 ticket price throughout the house for the 11am performances on 12 and 13 April.

While the lower ticket prices are very enticing, it is important to remember the incredible story of Giselle that will be told from 8 to 17 April at Joburg Theatre.

“Ever since its first performance in 1841, this moving story of a young girl who dies of a broken heart has been admired as one of the ultimate measures of a ballerina’s greatness,” said artistic director Iain MacDonald.

“We are proud to join the international community in celebrating this landmark anniversary after an absence of four years from our repertoire.”

Joburg Ballet always strove to make this art form one of the more recognized cultural phenomena in South Africa and with the lower prices this year, they may just achieve that goal.
