LETTER: Charge entrance to Zoo Lake

I de Villiers from Parkhurst writes:

The article titled, 100 years burnt, Week ending 4 December, refers.

It is with great sadness that I read in the paper about the murder of another tree at Zoo Lake.

What a lovely place it used to be and now, sadly, I will not even drive past it as the beauty and tranquility have disappeared.

Is it not possible that Zoo Lake can be run and maintained along the same lines as the Walter Sisulu Gardens? If this can be done, it will once again become a place of value. I know it will be a large undertaking, but the end result will, by far, overshadow what is happening at this present time.

I feel an entrance fee must be charged, this can go towards the employment of park wardens, a very necessary presence. There are very few places where you can enter for free and expect first-class facilities and first-class visitors.
