Councillor warns of power outages from 10pm tonight

PARKHURST – Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck has warned residents to be aware of planned power outages in a number of suburbs due to maintenance to the Parkhurst substation on 3 November at 10pm.

According to Truluck, he was made aware that City Power underspent its maintenance budget by R77 million and now has to fervently work to catch up on the upkeep of substations.

He cautioned residents in the following areas to be prepared:

  • Blairgowrie
  • Craighall
  • Craighall Park
  • Dunkeld West
  • Emmarentia
  • Forest Town
  • Greenside
  • Greenside East
  • Houghton Estate
  • Hyde Park
  • Linden
  • Oerder Park
  • Parkhurst
  • Parktown
  • Parktown North
  • Parkview
  • Parkwood
  • Pierneef Park
  • Riepen Park
  • Robindale
  • Saxonwold
  • Victory Park.

“Sometimes the maintenance work on a substation can be completed without having to switch the power supply to residential areas off,” stated Truluck.

“But if the outages do occur, residents should please unplug all electric appliances because there is a chance of a high voltage surge when the power is switched back on again.”

These surges can cause formidable damage which City Power has proved, on numerous occasions, they will not be held liable for.

“Also ensure that your power supply does not trip after the electricity comes back on again by communicating with neighbours and keeping up-to-date with other residents in your suburb on social media,” he advised.

If further problems persist, faults can be logged with City Power on the citypower.mobi website. It is important, though, to record all reference numbers of faults logged.
