Friends of Rosebank Library appeal

ROSEBANK - Friends of Rosebank Library need your old books.

Friends of the Rosebank Library (FORL) needs the community to join hands in helping them support the library.

“We, the Friends of the Rosebank Library, would like to appeal to the public for donations of books for our monthly book sale which we hold on the last Thursday of each month. Books can be dropped off at the Library, 8 Keyes Avenue, during library hours,” said chairperson Judy Stockill.

Since it’s spring, it is a good time to spring clean bookshelves and make room for the great new books that will go on sale during the holiday season.

The funds from the book sales augment the City’s budget for new books and are used only to purchase new books.

The Friends buy newly-published books which are then donated to the library. The librarian has the first option on the books that are donated and suitable books are taken into library stock for the use and enjoyment of borrowers at the library and other libraries. The remaining books are offered for sale and the proceeds again buy new books.

“We find good homes for the books and magazines that don’t sell,” explained Stockill.

The next book sale will be on 29 October from 9am to 4pm at the library.

FORL run a book club on the first Thursday of each month. Readers and members of the club are encouraged to join as they review books and occasionally host guest speakers. Joining is free, however, there is a charge of R7.50 for tea.
