Pets will be blessed

PARKVIEW - All pets are welcomed for a day of blessings at the St Francis Anglican Church.

Pet pigs, parrots, dogs, cats, rats, reptiles, ravens, budgies, canaries, parakeets, gerbils, mice, and even the odd goat, sheep and exotic pet will all be heartily welcomed at the annual Blessing of Pets service to be held at St Francis of Assisi Anglican Church in Parkview at 9.30am on 11 October.

The service is a relaxed affair in the church gardens and will see another rollout of the rich tradition based on the ministry of St Francis of Assisi which held that all of God’s creatures are precious.

Every pet will receive a personal blessing from the rector, Father Timothy Gray, during the service.

Churchwarden Theo Coggin said they look forward to welcoming a wide variety of pets and their owners at the service. He added that owners should bring their animals suitably restrained on leashes or in pet-friendly containers to ensure peace and harmony between animals, which St Francis himself advocated.
