Can you make a movie in 48 hours?

JOHANNESBURG – Joburg residents will race to write, cast, film and edit an entire film in just one weekend in the 48 Hour Film Project.

What started as a local film challenge among friends, has become one of the most highly-anticipated and largest filmmaking projects in the world.

This year, the project has toured 125 cities, put more than 50 000 people to the challenge and now it’s hitting Jozi.

A number of teams will gather at City Varsity on Simmonds Street in Johannesburg where they will be given a few essentials, including a genre for their movie, a character, a prop and a line of dialogue that must feature.

Then they have just 48 hours to create a script, find the rest of the cast, film their movies and then edit them before screening them to the public and a panel of judges.

The best film from Johannesburg will be chosen and the winners will be in the running for top honors at Filmapalooza 201 – the 48 Hour Film Project’s annual awards. The top 12 films from this worldwide event will screen at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner.

The 48 Hour Film Project starts at 6pm on 4 September at City Varsity, 125 Simmonds Street, Braamfontein.
