Petrol price drops at midnight

JOBURG - Motorists can breathe a sigh of relief as the clock strikes 12 on the night of 4 August as the petrol price is set to drop by 51 cents a litre.

The Department of Energy announced that all grades of petrol would drop by 51 cents a litre while diesel would drop by 75 cents.

The department attributed the petrol price drop to the weakening Rand against the Dollar, as the weakening Rand decreased the contribution to the Basic Fuels Price on petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin.

One week ago the Automobile Association of South Africa predicted that the petrol price would drop by over 40 cents, due to the oil price’s steady decline.
