Eskom could soon be Singhing with joy

JOBURG - The boards of Transnet and Eskom recently agreed to the appointment of Transnet group CEO, Anoj Singh as acting chief financial officer of Eskom for a period of six months.

Singh’s secondment will be effective from 1 August. In a statement, Eskom stated that Singh would be responsible for driving all aspects of the company’s financial strategy.

Singh, a chartered accountant, has been in the role of group chief financial officer at Transnet for the past six years. According to Mboniso Sigonyela, Transnet spokesperson, Singh led Transnet’s treasury operations which saw the company raising billions in both domestic and international markets.

“Under Singh’s leadership, Transnet has accessed funding from investors in Canada, United States, Germany and China, among others,” said Sigonyela. “Throughout his leadership, Transnet maintained an above investment grade rating while raising funds on the strength of its balance sheet.”

Singh launched Transnet’s rolling seven-year infrastructure investment programme which currently stands at R336 billion. This included the historic acquisition of 1 064 locomotives – one of South Africa’s single biggest capital investment transactions. He also won the Compliance and Governance Award and Public Finance Award at the CFO Awards last year.
