Call goes out to businesswomen

JOBURG - The 2015 Elle Boss Award in partnership with the Veuve Clicquot Business Woman Award is calling on all businesswomen to enter a life-changing competition that recognises and rewards women in business.

According to Elle publisher, Gisèle Wertheim-Aymés, an Elle Boss is a natural female leader in business, someone who is confident, strong and committed, and a risk-taker who is not afraid to think out of the box and ask for what she wants.

“An Elle Boss is a visionary, is outstanding and is a leader to watch for the future,” added Wertheim-Aymés.

She said in South Africa where only three women made it to the Top 100 CEO list last year, gender empowerment in business was a top priority. “Elle wants to challenge the status quo by recognising and rewarding women who deserve acknowledgement,” said Wertheim-Aymés.

Three finalists will be chosen from two categories – corporate and entrepreneurial. One Elle Boss winner will be awarded for her achievements from each of the two categories, and subsequently an overall winner will be chosen.

This year’s new Elle Boss winner will be flown to attend the Veuve Clicquot Business Women Award event, hosted by French champagne house Veuve Clicquot in Reims, France.

The trip will take place next year and the prize includes all flights and accommodation. The runner-up will receive a top-of-the-range Smartphone, and a special Veuve Clicquot experience, including a private dinner for her and five guests.

Four further Elle Boss runners-up will receive a top-of-the-range Smartphone and a magnum bottle of Veuve Clicquot.

Applicants must be no younger than 25 and not older than 45.

The entrepreneur category rewards an inspirational woman who has been in business for longer than two years and is able to show a healthy balance sheet with a minimum turnover of R1 million.

The corporate category rewards an inspirational woman who demonstrates managerial skills, social responsibility and leadership. A woman matching the entrepreneur or corporate category can either self-nominate, with a mentor or manager seconding their application, or she can be nominated, as long as she consents to the nomination.

Entries close on 5 August.
