UPDATE: Armed robbery at Rosebank Mall

ROSEBANK - AN armed robbery allegedly took place earlier today at the Woolworths store.

UPDATE: 23 June 2015, 10am – ROSEBANK police spokesperson Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe confirmed that Woolworths in Rosebank Mall was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money.

According to Mdletshe, three armed suspects pretending to be security guards, entered Woolworths through the dispatch area.

“The robbery was done very professionally, and staff only noticed after the suspects had fled,” said Mdletshe.

He said Rosebank police were investigating the matter.

UPDATE: 5pm – Gaby Peters, the Marketing Manager of Rosebank Mall released a statement following the robbery.

She said, “Three suspects entered the Woolworths back of house receiving area today, 22 June, posing as security guards and walked away with bags of coins. No shots were fired and no persons injured. The police are investigating the incident. A case of armed robbery has been opened.”

Initial report: 22 June 2015, 16:56pm – It is believed that an armed robbery occurred at the Woolworths store in Rosebank Mall earlier today.

According to reports, three gunmen entered the store through the back entrance on the pretenses of being security guards.

Staff at the store was then allegedly held at gunpoint and the armed robbers made off with bags of cash from the store.

Reports further state that no shots were fired and nobody was injured during the incident.

Police spokesperson, Katlego Mogale told EWN, “Three suspects held security at gunpoint then took an undisclosed amount of money then fled the scene.”
