Donate blood and win
JOBURG - As Blood Donor Month continues until the end of June, the public is encouraged to save a life and stand a chance to win with 3M and South African National Blood Services (SANBS).
Did you know that one unit of your blood can save up to three lives? By taking a few minutes of your time to donate a unit of blood, you are affording another life the opportunity to continue.
Producers of first aid products, 3M Nexcare, as well as SANBS are encouraging more people to donate blood during their Give campaign.
Donors will be rewarded with a limited-edition plaster to demonstrate this year’s theme, Culture of Giving. 3M has donated 70 000 Nexcare™ limited edition plasters inspired by locations around the world in support of this campaign. In addition to receiving the limited edition plaster, donors can upload a selfie while donating blood, as well as extend the challenge to friends and family and stand the chance to win a goodie-filled hamper from 3M.
This year, 3M aims to beat last year’s record of 33.6 million millilitres of blood. They are now aiming for 38.4 million millilitres of blood with the inclusion of the Western Province Blood Transfusion Services which is joining this campaign.
“You so often hear of blood shortages, and winter is a pretty tough time for the South African National Blood Service. The SANBS requires 3 000 units of blood on any given day to maintain stock levels,” said Ivor Hobbs, regional marketing manager of SANBS.
“We are grateful for the support from 3M and, hopefully, we will beat last year’s record.”
The public is also encouraged to donate blood regularly – every 56 days – in order to provide it to those in dire need.
