Joburg Water to finally fix pavement

KILLARNEY – JOBURG Water is finally fixing a dug-up pavement on the corner of Riviera Road and 4th Avenue, Killarney, after numerous complaints from residents.

Hussein Dudhia, chairman of Hampshire body corporate said, “This is a serious hazard, particularly if a pedestrian walks onto the main road in order to circumvent the obstruction.”

Dudhia explained that Joburg Water had fixed a water leak in the area about a month back but had not restored the pavement.

Spokesperson for Joburg Water, David Sibiya, apologised for the inconvenience caused and confirmed that repaving was scheduled for 18 June.

Sibiya explained that Joburg Water had an agreement with Joburg Roads Agency (JRA) to do reinstatements on roads and road reserves once they had completed their repairs.

“In this instance, there seems to have been a lapse in communication from our side to the JRA,” he said.

“We have, however, done backfilling on 15 June, and paving has been booked [for 18 June] which will be carried out by our team.”

Sibiya concluded that the leak could have been caused by anything from normal wear and tear to ageing infrastructure.
