Another taxi bust driving on wrong side of Jan Smuts Ave

IN SPITE of recent accidents and media coverage, yet another taxi driver was arrested for driving on the wrong side of Jan Smuts Avenue on 10 June.

According to Metro police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar, two taxi drivers were also fined for talking on their cellphones whilst driving, and seven others were fined for operating taxis with expired licence discs.

“It is unacceptable… what the taxi drivers are doing, as their actions could endanger other motorists’ lives,” said Minnaar.

“Metro police are being deployed at different spots, and if [drivers are] found breaking the law, arrests will be made and you will have to appear in court. This operation is taken seriously by the Metro police and drastic measures will be taken should an unlawful act be committed.”
