Join a mass meditation for peace in Africa

JOBURG - I Meditate Africa is a campaign promoting peace across Africa, encouraging the use of meditation as part of mainstream peace building.

Over 500 studies from more than 200 international universities, including Princeton and Harvard, have scientifically proven that meditation can improve the quality of life for everyone.

At a time when there is such violence, misunderstanding and a lack of human values in our country, the aim is to do something positive, come together in peace and unite people on a deeper level through the power of collective consciousness.

Joaquim Chissano, the former president of Mozambique is referred to as the ‘meditating president’, who encouraged meditation to his army and civilians, he credits meditation as being one of the contributing factors for peace and prosperity in his country.

The father of our nation, Nelson Mandela said, “Regular meditation, say of about 15 minutes a day before you turn in, can be fruitful…” as quoted in The Authorised Biography by Anthony Sampson.

Under I Meditate Africa, on Africa’s 50th Anniversary of unification in 2013, an estimated 10 000 people from 23 African countries, 30 African cities and 54 international countries were led in the largest peace meditation for Africa, with noted humanitarian Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. Participating African countries were Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Cameroon, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Malawi, Uganda, Tanzania, Tunisia, Nigeria, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Namibia, Mauritius, Morocco, DRC, Zambia, Ethiopia, Togo, Sudan and South Africa.

In 2014 again, during Africa Month, 100 000 people across 23 African countries meditated for peace for Africa – a resounding sign of people wanting to do something positive for our continent.

A Public Mega Peace event will be hosted on 23 May where over 20 African countries will be led in a peace meditation via webcast.

Events are happening in Johannesburg, Cape Town and KwaZulu-Natal. The Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Mohamed Enver Surty is confirmed to be the guest speaker at the peace event in Gauteng.

Throughout the month of May, Africa month, peace meditations will be held across the country through educational institution, teaching peace in order to reach peace.
