Meet Ken Block

JOBURG - Ken Block, one of the world's craziest and most extreme drivers, will be joining the Clarkson, Hammond and May Live theatre show as a guest in July.

Ken Block has become a worldwide sensation since posting videos of his extreme driving on Youtube, and City Buzz interviewed the motorhead to find out what his expectations are before coming to South Africa.

Q. What are you most looking forward to experiencing in South Africa?

A. It’s always great to meet motorsport fans in different parts of the world because they all share the same passion, even if there are cultural or language barriers.

Q. What will you be bringing to South African audiences that is new or that has never been seen before?

A. I’ll be bringing them my 1965 all-wheel-drive Ford Mustang Hoonicorn from Gymkhana Seven. It’s the only one in the world and it’s got an 845hp V8 that helps it make a LOT of tyre smoke.

Q. South Africa has a booming street fashion culture. Will you be taking a look at it for inspiration for Hoonigan Industries?

A. Hoonigan is always taking in inspiration from around the world, so if we see something in our travels, there’s a good chance it’ll trickle back.

Q. What’s your favourite car?

A. My Hoonicorn, obviously.

Q. Who modifies your cars?

A. Myself and my team work with M-Sport in the UK for my Fiesta race cars and we partnered with RTR on the Hoonicorn build.

Q. Do you have your own collection of cars?

A. Not really, it’s mostly just race cars at this point. My daily is a Ford F-150 Raptor pickup truck, and my wife drives a Ford Flex. I’ve got a Focus ST that’s modified a bit for a fun alternative to the truck and that’s about it.

Block is looking forward to working with Clarkson, Hammond and May once again.
