Taking care of the finer crime-proofing details

PARKVIEW - In light of the previous house robberies that occurred three weeks back in Craighall, Parkhurst and Parktown North, Parkview police drove around their precinct to assess just how easy it was for criminals to break in to properties.

Their findings were alarming and according to Parkview spokesperson Lloyd Ramovha, many times residents’ created opportunities for criminals to break in by simply being neglectful.

“The neglectful nature of residents that seems to be on the rise presents opportunities for would-be criminals to pounce,” Ramovha said.

Ramovha added that simple things like closing a gate, or leaving a car window open gave criminals the opportunity they needed to ‘pounce’.

In addition, Ramovha added that in terms of security measures such as alarm systems and burglar bars, many residents were up to date however just needed to ensure that simple things were looked into.

Once again Ramovha urged residents to be more vigilant.

“Residents need to be alert at all times, especially with things that are in their control. Many criminals are opportunists always looking for opportunities,” he said.
