St Columba caretaker moves on after 35 years

PARKVIEW - St Columba said farewell to its caretaker Phillemon Ramudzuli who had been with the church for 35 years.

“He was employed as a caretaker, but became so much more than that. He became an integral part of the community of St. Columba and Parkview,” said Reverend Dr Chunky Young.

Some of Ramudzulis responsibilities included unlocking the church and assisting with the soup kitchen which feeds about 35 people daily. “From there, Ramudzuli would ensure that everything needed for the day was set up. Often he would finish late at night after the last meeting and he would then have to lock the church and start up all over again,” added Young.

Ramudzuli was also renowned for his small transport business.

“Ramudzuli owned a bakkie and whenever anyone in Parkview needed a small removal, or rubbish removal, he was called for the job,” explained Young.

“We will really miss him,” said Young.
