Parkhurst residents turn Verity Park pink for ‘pinknic’

PARKHURST- The hugely anticipated 'pinknic' in Verity Park, Parkhurst was a total success and residents came in numbers for a relaxed day.

The event celebrated the power of a connected community – not only in terms of fibre Internet access, but also by bringing residents and visitors together to celebrate the very essence of park life.

The day was filled with performances from the likes of saxophone player Eustace Wilken, and Cameron Bruce and John Fresk, popularly known as Bruce and Fresk who blew the crowd away with their fresh and current sound. Jazz singer Tribute Birdie Mboweni brought everyone to their feet with her melodic sound and smooth dance moves.

Parkhurst residents enjoyed a picnic in true pink style and the day ended off with awards given out to the best dressed picnickers, and the best beards.

Jean-Paul Hansen, a member of the Parkhurst Resident and Business Association was extremely happy with the turnout and was happy that Parkhurst residents were able to connect together as a community and not just via technology.

“The aim of the event was to bring people together and connect the community,” said Hansen. “We are very connected in terms of technology… a connected community is a powerful community, it’s really important to stand as one and make a good suburb.”
