Miss Earth drives green

PARKTOWN- Miss Earth 2014, Ilse Saunders, was handed a Toyota Auris on 23 January, after winning Miss Earth 2014. "I feel very blessed and grateful to be given green wheels," she said.

Imperial Toyota has supplied Miss Earth South Africa winners with the latest in hybrid vehicle technology for the past six years. Thus keeping them green on the roads as they travel to educational projects, green initiatives, social and environmental conferences, workshops and events throughout the year of their reign.

Saunders was excited to be given the car as it would help minimise her carbon footprint on the earth and assist her in getting to meetings and interviews.

Miss Earth South Africa is aimed at empowering young women with the knowledge to create a sustainable difference to combat the destruction of our natural heritage. In essence, “Miss Earth South Africa is a leadership programme that empowers young South Africans,” said Saunders.

Saunders explained that the title was a dream come true, and it gave her a platform to ‘lead, care and give’.

Saunders said the meaning of the title for her was to “promote people’s lives and the ability to create opportunities”.
