Rapist arrested after victim spots him 2 years later

PARKVIEW-A 36-year-old male was arrested on 21 January for an alleged rape, after he was spotted by his victim.

According to Parkview police spokesperson Lloyd Ramovha, a 31-year-old rape survivor walked into the Parkview Police Station just before 12am to report that she had just seen the suspect.

“Upon hearing the woman’s plight, without delay, plain clothed members Sergeant Peter Mpofu and Constable Mampheko Rasebokola noted the description of the suspect and went in search of him,” said Parkview police spokesperson Lloyd Ramavho.

The police returned shortly afterwards having successfully captured the suspect.

The rape is alleged to have taken place on 6 August 2013 and the case was reported at the Johannesburg Central Police Station.

The suspect has been on the run since he and three other accomplices raped her in central Johannesburg two years earlier. Two of the suspects were arrested after the incident and are reported to be serving their sentences in prison already.

The suspect is in the process of being transferred to Johannesburg Central Police Station where the original charge was laid, and will appear at Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
