Ward 117 Tim Truluck’s end of year message

Ward 117 Councillor Tim Truluck reflected on the year gone by and reviewed some upcoming projects for next year.

“This time last year, the campaigning for the 2014 General Election was well under way, and this time next year we will be in the midst of Johannesburg’s most important local elections. If the city continues in its current trajectory under the ANC-led administration, our Mayor and his committee will continue swanning around at conferences and overseas trips while we live in fear of incorrect bills, power issues every time the wind blows and the same potholes reappearing after every summer shower” said Truluck.

“Having said that, it is not all doom and gloom. Hard work by myself, city officials, the residents’ associations, management district and businesses have resulted in some notable achievements in the ward,” he said.

Truluck noted some of the successful ventures completed this year, which include the R6.8 million phase one upgrade and new outdoor gym at Zoo Lake, and in Parkhurst the removal of paid parking, R250 000 sidewalk rejuvenation of 4th Avenue and the R30 million roll out of a fibre optic network through Vumatel all contributed to the overall improvement of the suburb.

Other commendable endeavours completed include the new voluntary management district in Parkwood, the speed bumps added in Saxonwold, the impressive clean up of the park and ride area in Parktown North and the R2 million allocated to riverbank protection along the spruit.

Truluck also highlighted the prospective projects for the coming year, which include the zoo parking deck, revamp of the Parkhurst Bowls and Soccer Club in Victory Park, a new parking area and mountain bike trial planned in Delta Park, while in Rosebank new linear parks, a library and clinic as well as the Keys Ave Art District are in the works, including 25km of cycle lanes radiating from Rosebank and joining with the Spruit.

“All of the above is very exciting, but I think my biggest achievement is keeping you all connected and informed about what is going on in our ward and our city.” he said

“I want to end by wishing everyone a wonderful and restful holiday period. The next 18 months or so will be a stressful and bumpy ride, but here’s hoping that ‘a change is going to come’ and we can soon start turning this great city around.”
