Follow the yellow brick road

PARKTOWN - "THERE is no place like home, there is no place like home", said Dorothy as she clicked her heals together.

The National Children’s Theatre is currently hosting the much-loved musical production, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

This performance sews together well-timed musical numbers, lighthearted slapstick and intriguing narration which has young audiences captivated.

In the original story written by Frank Baum, Dorothy’s shoes were silver and not the iconic red popularised by Judy Garland’s technicolor film. The play pays homage to the story’s earliest authentic version by returning to the use of a pair of silver shoes.

The production caters aptly for families with young children – or the young at heart. Join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion as the follow the yellow brick road to the Emerald City, and learn along the way, life’s many lessons as they search for the Wizard of Oz.

The children’s theatre endeavours to reach out to children from diverse backgrounds, while promoting aspiring professionals in the arts.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz runs from 11 November to 21 December at the National Children’s Theatre, at 3 Junction Avenue in Parktown.
