Crawford pupils show off their art

KILLARNEY - TALENTED pupils from Crawford Preparatory Sandton launched their annual art exhibition at Killarney Mall on 14 October.

The pupils’ work ranged from drawings of superheroes to paintings of animals and were spread across the shopping mall to be viewed by the public until 18 October.

Principal of the school, Gordon Ewen said, “This is the fourth year we’ve had our art exhibition at Killarney Mall. And it’s just a chance for all the pupils to have their work shown outside of the school. I think it’s great that all the families will be able to come and view the work.

“At Crawford we employ specialist teachers in art, music and drama. We allow the pupils to be exposed to different techniques and materials, and they are given the freedom to express themselves. And this will help them grow as people.”

The exhibition also marked the first successful year that photojournalism has been introduced into the art curriculum at the school, which has been received with great enthusiasm. The pupils are given Samsung tablets and are encouraged to photograph life around them. Art teacher Shirley Gray said the programme has really excited the children, adding that there are more children than tablets.
