The Momentum Cricket Sixes heads for Joburg

HOUGHTON ESTATE - The Momentum Sixes Invitational cricket series will be staged at Old Eds on 18 October.

The series was first played at the Claremont Cricket Club in Cape Town last year. The event is the brain child of Graeme Smith, Mark Boucher and Justin Kemp, and is primarily a corporate event with teams bidding for the legends at a dinner the previous evening. A golf day precedes the dinner.

Players, or legends, such as Smith, Kemp, Jacques Kallis, Bobby Skinstad, Pat Symcox, Adam Bacher, HD Ackerman, Makhaya Ntini and international stars Kevin Pieterson and Damien Martyn are all due to play.

Proceeds from the day will go to charities like the Momentum Bursary Initiative, Jacques Kallis Foundation, Supersport’s Let’s Play, KFC Mini cricket and the Rhinos in Safe Hands legacy, formed by South African Breweries and Mark Boucher.

Both the Sullivan Oval and the Alan Lawson Oval will be used with play throughout the day.

The event has cemented itself as the newest must-attend social and sporting event of the year. This year it promises to be bigger and better with even more legends, entertainment and fun than last year.

“We are proud to again be sponsoring the Momentum Cricket Sixes. Sure, it is a fun day, but at the heart of everyone’s contribution on the day, is giving back,” Danie van den Bergh, head of the Momentum brand said.

“Supporting Mark’s rhino charity and our commitment to developing sporting talent with a strong quality education component, are two worthwhile causes we are happy to endorse.”

Mike Dunk, communications officer of the Old Edwardian Society said, “We are delighted to be able to host such a prestigious event. To have the opportunity to see such legends of the game, all in aid of some wonderfully worthwhile charities, is an honour for the Society.”

He urged the Joburg public to come along, not only to see some explosive cricket, but also to contribute to the charitable organisations.
