Craighall Park woman possibly raped, killed by burglars

CRAIGHALL PARK – Police are investigating the death of a Craighall Park resident who was allegedly murdered at her home.

Police spokesperson, Constable Thabo Malatji said the 89-year-old woman was possibly raped and a white 1400 bakkie was stolen by the perpetrator.

Malatji added that the suspect got involved in an accident with the stolen bakkie further up Grosvenor Avenue.

According to Malatji, a motorist who witnessed the accident said a man jumped out of the vehicle and ran towards Jan Smuts Avenue.

“No arrests have been made yet,” he said.

A Craighall Park resident told Rosebank Killarney Gazette that the woman had come home and found the burglar in her home. Although unconfirmed, the resident said local security guards saw the bakkie and went to the woman’s house, whom they knew, to find out if she had given permission for someone to use it, when they discovered her body.

A police investigation is underway.

Earlier today, Minister of Police, Nkosinathi Nhleko, released the crime statistics for South Africa which indicated that murder and robbery were on the increase.

  1. Just when we raise our hopes and hope for a crime-free society, selfish people rock up and spoil the party. Condolences to her family.

  2. This is bloody disgusting and sad to hear this.
But then what do we expect when the criminals, murderers, rapists simply get a slap on the wrist “if they ever arrested & sentenced”.
SA currently have the chance (with O.P) to show that these crimes are not excepted and give O.P 45+ years FREE ACCOMODATION @ C-MAX.
Alternatively send these fools to be sentenced in Botswana, “it’s the last criminal activity they will ever witness or be affiliated with.”

  3. I am so horrified and shocked by this despicable crime. We are not safe in our own homes. My condolences to her family and friends.
