Police bust car thieves

PARKHURST – Parkview police have arrested two suspects who were caught in a stolen vehicle on the busy 4th Avenue strip in Parkhurst.

The arrest occurred in the early hours of 25 August after Sergeant Eddie Mashilani and Constable Sibongile Magagula noticed a blue Tata Indica on 4th Avenue, which had two occupants. Police said the vehicle had been travelling over the speed limit.

Mashilani and Magagula ordered the driver to pull over and searched the vehicle, said Parkview police spokesperson Sergeant Lloyd Ramovha. “After the search of both occupants and the vehicle, several female items were discovered of which the occupants failed to account for,” said Ramovha.

“Upon verifying ownership details using registration plates via radio control, it was established that the vehicle in fact belonged to a woman unknown to the suspects,” he added. The two suspects were immediately arrested for possession of suspected stolen property and detained at Parkview Police Station.

The owner of the vehicle subsequently arrived at the station and opened a case of theft of motor vehicle.

The suspects were expected to appear at the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court on charges related to theft of motor vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle.
