KES headmaster in ice bucket challenge (Video)

King Edwards VII School headmaster, David Lovatt took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge involves dumping a bucket of ice water on someone’s head to promote awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and to encourage donations for research.

Before being doused with chilly water by the school’s prefects and headboy, Lovatt issued his own challenge.

The KES headmaster challenged headmasters from rival schools including Parktown Boys’, Jeppe Boys’ and Pretoria Boys’ high schools to get drenched with a bucket of icy water to support the ALS Association.

With a sister suffering from multiple sclerosis, Lovatt said the challenge was initially a personal initiative but felt he needed to set an example for his pupils as well.

“This is an opportunity as a school to post the challenge to other schools and it is important that the headmasters set the example and create awareness of the disease,” he said.

Following his icy encounter, some KES boys also decided to take the dunk and post the challenge to their fellow pupils and teachers.
