After a day-long strike, bus drivers agreed to return to work today. Bombela Concession Company spokesperson Errol Braithwaite said all Gautrain bus services were operating normally today.
Gautrain bus drivers in Joburg walked off the job on 20 August, resulting in some bus services being suspended. The wildcat strike had resulted in the suspension of bus services from Park, Rosebank, Sandton, Midrand and Rhodesfield stations, Braithwaite said.
“This affected commuters from about 3pm yesterday.”
However, train services were unaffected.
Last week, the United Transport and Allied Trade Union, the union which represents Gautrain’s train drivers and some station staff, issued a strike notice effective from 18 August.
However, Bombela Concession Company and union representatives reached a labour agreement with Gautrain train drivers, averting strike action by drivers in that sector.
Braithwaite said the strike resulted from a misunderstanding about a media report referring to a settlement reached between the employer and train drivers, which incorrectly stated that a settlement had been reached with both the train and bus drivers.
