Women in small businesses celebrated

Community-based non-profit organisation, Centre of Happiness, hosted a Women's Day event to celebrate female entrepreneurs on 9 August.

Based in Parktown North, the centre supports entrepreneurs, small business development and social development.

According to the Centre of Happiness director, Cherne Cullen, the day was about celebrating and showing support to women in business.

She said the women were brought together so each one and each of their businesses could be celebrated – those who have products sold them on the day and others networked and marketed themselves.

Former Miss Deaf SA and Miss Deaf World, Candice Morgan, was guest speaker at the event.

“I would like to prove to the hearing world that Deaf people can do anything they can, and sometimes even better. As a young woman hoping to be in Parliament one day, I would like to fight for the rights of women, especially Deaf women,” she said.
