Killarney Country Club to make a difference on Mandela Day

KILLARNEY – The Killarney Country Club is taking the initiative to support this year’s Nelson Mandela International Day on 18 July by raising funds for underprivileged golfers in Joburg.

In-line with the objectives of Mandela Day, their aim is to take action to help change South Africa for the better and to empower communities. The initiative will give underprivileged golfers an opportunity to develop their talents and achieve success in their golfing endeavours.

The country club’s association with Mandela has been closer than most. For the many years while Mandela lived at his Houghton home, he used to cast his vote at their internal voting station.

On Mandela Day, the club’s Warrick Druian and Kevin Rakow, together with South African sporting heroes, renowned soccer coach Gavin Hunt and former Protea spin bowler Paul Harris, will be attempting to play 67 holes of golf in one day. This will take place at Killarney Country Club and the goal is to raise funds in memory Madiba.

The team will tee off at six minutes to seven in the morning of 18 July, with the goal of reaching 67 holes before the cut-off time at seven minutes to six in the evening.

Golfers, corporates, entrepreneurs and all interested parties are requested to commit to this worthy cause and pledge R1, R10 or R100 per hole completed.

Details: Kevin Rakow, 011 442 3880; Warrick Druian, 011 327 0657.
