Be the change

HOUGHTON – Brand South Africa launched its 13 part Play Your Part TV Series, which debuts on SABC2 on Sunday 15 June 2014, at the Market Theatre.

The series, which profiles ordinary South Africans doing extraordinary things, is hosted by Kabelo Mabelane.

According to Brand South Africa, the series is intended to inspire others to ‘play their part’ and do ordinary things that make an extraordinary difference in the lives of others.

The TV series is about realising the tangible difference that can be made through small collective contributions.

A participant in the series, Mercy Senyatsi, a life orientation teacher at Dr AMS Makunyane Secondary School in Polokwane, Limpopo said, “Originally, I was inspired by my late parents who raised and tutored many children, irrespective of their family background.”

Throughout her career, Senyatsi said she had been touched by the plight of orphaned and vulnerable children. Living up to her name, Mercy has brought kindness and hope into the lives of those who most desperately need it.

Also doing amazing work with the youth is founder of Freewheelers Cycling Club, Trevor Knowlden.

He explained how introducing bicycles to the youth has gone a long way in keeping them away from substance abuse, teenage pregnancy and involvement with gangs.

He said cycling is a healthy alternative for the youth of Steenberg, in the Western Cape.

“We take youth from various surrounding communities on mountain biking and road cycling outings.”

Sithembile Ntombela, brand manager for Brand SA said, “There are amazing people doing amazing things every day in every part of our country, and the Play Your Part platform is perfect for you to share your stories, and to celebrate each other as citizens of our wonderful country.”
