Rosebank dagga dealer bust

ROSEBANK – Rosebank police nabbed a dreadlocked man who was found in possession of dagga and believed to be dealer of the plant.

ROSEBANK – Rosebank police arrested a dreadlocked man who was found in possession of dagga and believed to be dealer of the drug.

Station commander Lieutenant Colonel Logan Govender said they had received a tip-off from the community about the alleged dealer, and that senior management at the station decided to tackle the problem “personally”.

The station commander, branch commander of detectives and head of crime intelligence met at the station on the evening of 6 June. Dressed in civilian clothing, they walked to Keyes Avenue and undertook a stakeout for about an hour.

During the stakeout, police witnessed an alleged deal between the dreadlocked suspect and two men, in which something – believed to be dagga – was handed over to the men. At this point, police were convinced the suspect was carrying the dagga on him as he allegedly reached inside his coat during the exchange.

Police approached the suspect in unmarked vehicles and introduced themselves before proceeding to search him. Govender said they found dagga stashed in socks and hidden inside the left and right sleeves of his coat.

About 67 rolled joints and 25 sachets of dagga, with an estimated value of R1 200, were recovered during the search. Police said the suspect was also wearing an old South African Police Service overcoat and an additional charge of unlawful possession of police uniform was added.

Govender said the management at Rosebank Police Station had taken a stance that there will be a “zero tolerance approach” to drug dealers and users in the precinct.
