EMMARENTIA – Parkview police nabbed an alleged fraudster who tried to bribe police officers in Emmarentia.

According to police spokesperson, Sergeant Lloyd Ramovha, while on patrol Sergeant Thabo Chukudu and Constable Collen Mashaba received a call from a local supermarket.

“On arrival, a 33-year-old male suspect was handed over to them together with a credit card not belonging to him, that he had allegedly tried to use,” said Ramovha.

The police officers then proceeded to take the suspect into custody. “To the officers’ astonishment, the suspect took out R1 000 cash, offering it to them in exchange of them destroying the said credit card and setting him free,” said Ramovha.

The suspect also allegedly offered the policemen more money if they were to release him.

“At this stage a further charge of bribery was added to the original charge of fraud and he was detained,” said Ramovha.

Police later established that the suspect had several more pending cases.

Ramovha added, “It is quite encouraging and refreshing to have officers who are hardworking and incorruptible.”

The suspect is expected to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
