Neon run to light up the night

JOBURG - Neon Run, the nation's most electric and glowing 5km run, is coming to town this month.

The fun run, which will pass through different “glow zones”, will end in an electric music festival featuring some of South Africa’s top artists.

Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Andrea Smit said that the run aims to bring together thousands of people of all ages and nationalities under the night sky.

“It’s all about having fun and experiencing the neon lifestyle, whether you are running, walking, skating, rollerblading or cycling, as an individual or in a group,” she said.

“Participants can look forward to several amazing light points with out-of-this-world light displays, fire and poi dancers, food stalls, and a fully-stocked bar.”

There will also be plenty of seating for those who would like to give their legs a rest after the race.

“Colourful glowing paint and glow sticks will be available at the event, and participants are encouraged to wear any colours that glow, such as neon and whites. The crazier, the better!” said Smit.

Participants stand a chance to win spot prizes on the day, including a weekend away at the Protea Fire & Ice Hotel at Melrose Arch.

Performers at the music festival include Chris Taylor, Dean Fuel, ShortStraw, The Kiffness, and 5FM’s Roger Goode.

The event is sponsored by 5FM, DStv, ABI, Coca-Cola, Powerade, Runner’s World and Planet Fitness.

The Neon Run will take place on 17 May at Bidvest Wanderers Stadium, Corlett Drive, Illovo.

The gates will open at 3pm, with the run starting at 6.30pm.
